On April 24 - 26, 2026 Scouts and Leaders will embark on a weekend Camporee hosted by Chilsom Trails, Duck Creek, Southern Star, and Heart of Dallas Districts. During this weekend event, Scouts will compete against other units in friendly competitions of Scouting Skills and Games.

June 14 - 20, 2026 Scouts and Leaders will embark on a week-long camping experience where they will have an opportunity to participate in merit badge courses, high adventure activities, water activities, atv, snowsports, and much more. This month long leadership training will take place during each meeting throughout the month of June. ILST (Introduction to Leadership Training) is a three-part training designed to help newly elected Scout officers learn the tools and skills that they need to be effective leaders. Hosted by Troop 138, this training is a pre-requiste for any Scout who wishes to take NYLT.
March 20 - 22, 2026, members of our unit attended Swamp-O-Ree at BSA Swamp Base in Henderson, LA. This was a great weekend spent not only learning about the ecosystems and animals found within the Atchafalya Basin as well as conservation efforts, but Scouts also had the opportunity to Canoe 3.9 miles through the Atchafalaya Basin, take a 90-minute swamp tour with McGee's Swamp Boat Tours, and camped just on the shores of Bayou Mersier.
February 2026, Scouts and Leaders spent the day out a Cedar Hill Nature Preserve completing a 5 miles hike and working on their trail cooking skills.
December 26 - 31, 2025 our unit had three Scouts attend NYLT at Camp Wisdom in Dallas. During their 6 days/5 nights of trianing Scouts participate in many different activities as parts of a patrol in various roles of leadership and gain a real sense of what it takes to be a leader in a BSA Scouts unit. Many of the hands on activities used during this training are not only designed to teach scouts the skills they will need, but also provide many team building activities to teach Scouts that leadership is a group activity and not just the responsibility of a single person.
Eagle Scout Candidate, Brian, completed his Eagle Scout Project benefitting Sharing Life Community Outreach in Mesquite, TX. For his project, Brian lead a group of volunteers in collecting needed items and then putting together more than 300 person hygiene kits that would be given to those in the community who need them the most. The kits included things that soaps, deoderant, shampoo and conditioner, toothbrushes and toothpaste, combs/brushes, nail clippers, hand sanitizer, body wipes, hair ties, feminine hygiene products, razors, chapstick, and more.
November 22 - 25, 2025 we attending Campsgiving at Camp Constantin in Graford, TX. Scouts participated in merit badge courses, we took a hike to Johnson's Peak, did a little fishing, and practiced our trail cooking.
On November 1, 2025 our unit hosted a camping night for AOL Scouts from Packs 1115 and 548. During this outing AOL Scouts got to learn what it means to be part of a Scouting Troop and Patrol. In addition, they participated in skills learning including cooking, hiking, map orientation and reading, fire building, knife safety,and more.
October 26, 2025 our Scout Hut was rededicated and renamed the Hooper-Leake Hall by our charter organization. The new name is in honor of two very prominent former leaders of Troop 138: Dr. William Hooper (1924 - 2012) and Mr. Stephen Leake.
October 11, 2025 our unit hosted its first ever Hooked on Scouting recruiting event. Cub Scouts and families from the community were invited to come out to City Lake Park in Mesquite to join us for a day of fishing and to learn about Scouting.
September 26 - 28, 2026 was supposed to be our second annual aquatics campout, but due to scheduling conflicts it turned out to be a campout for the Young Fossils Patrol. This campout was a great time for the scouts to spend time practicing some of the skills they've learned, engaging in fellowship and bonding, and just having a great weekend together.
July 2025, Scouts spent three days emersed in ILST Training. This training provided by our Scoutmaster, is designed to help Scouts learn the skills and knowledge that they need to become effective leaders. As a pre-requisite course for NYLT, it provides Scouts with the foundational knowledge of what is expected of them as leaders, scouts, mentors, planners, and organizers.
Eagle Scout Candidate and Senior Patrol Leader, Aidan, completed his Eagle Scout Project benefitting The Crossing Baptist Church. For Aidan's project he built two benches to be placed in the fenced in playground to encourage parents and members of the church to enjoy the space with their children.
Eagle Candidate and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Elias completed his Eagle Scout Project benefitting our charter organization, First Presbyterian Church of Mesquite. For his project, Elias let a group of volunteers in a beautification project of the main entrance and grounds to the church. This project included trimming trees and bushes, sprucing up their garden areas with some new plants and mulch, cleaning out the gutters, and building and installing a new bench in their memorial garden for guests to enjoy.
June 8 - 14, 2025 our Scouts and Leaders spent a week at Summer Camp in Saint Joseph, Mo at the beautiful Camp Geiger. Scouts participated in classes in climbing, fishing, pottery, music, swim instruction, archery, rifle shooting, and much more.
The Eagle Court of honor is a ceremony and celebration to honor those who have made the commitment and earned the highest rank, Eagle Scout, in BSA Scouts. In order to achieve this honor a Scout must demonstrate leadership, service to others, and live by the Scout Oath and Scout Law. In addition they must have earned the previous six ranks, 21 merit badges including 14 Eagle Required merit badges, and have completed an Eagle Service Project which demonstrates planning, leadership, and service to others. Cayden had the honor of being Troop 138's 79th Eagle Scout during its 80 years of history.
May 2025 we celebrated 80 years of Scouting with Troop 138! This was a great event that allowed us to not only showcase what our Scouts are doing today, but also what our unit has done in the past. Pictured above are some of our current scouts along with some alumni from our unit.
Each year our unit volunteers to assist the City of Mesquite with their annual Family Fish Day. During the event we assist with the set-up, rigging the fishing poles for the free pole give away, providing participants with bait and corks, working the concessions stand, and assisting with the fishing tournament. In addition, our Scouts can often be found around the lake assisting families with baiting hooks, casting lines, and even helping to take fish off the hook.
Scouts spent the weekend enjoying friendly competition in scout skills and scout spirit at Trevor-Rees Jones Scout Camp.
A Scout is Clean and so is their meeting place. Part of our duties as a unit is to ensure that we keep things clean and tidy. During Spring Break Week of 2025 volunteers from our unit and their families came in to lend a hand giving the Scout Hut some much needed TLC.
Each year during the spring our unit plans a day outing to White Rock Lake in Dallas, TX for a 10 to 22 mile bike ride around the lake in conjunction with the Cycling Merit Badge. White Rock lake provides a great biking path for those of all biking skill levels. Its a great way to get in the miles and test your endurance, knowledge, skills, and learn to ride with others in a group.
Each spring AOL Scouts graduate from the Cub Scouts program in what is known as a cross-over ceremony. During this ceremony the Scouts are recognized for the work they have completed in Cub Scouts and are wished well as they take their first steps to beginning their journey in Scouts BSA. In 2025 we were privileged to receive one Scout from Pack 1115.
Following the Christmas holiday, Scouts and Leaders spent 5 days and 4 nights camping under the stars at Camp Preston Hunt in Texarkana, AR. During there time at camp Scouts participated in merit badge classes during the day like metalworking, first aid, cooking, camping, art, fishing, and more. In the evenings time was spent in fellowship, revelry, and camp games.
Each year we invite AOL Scouts from local packs to join us on a weekend campout at Ft. Parker State Park. During this weekend, AOL Scouts get a taste of what it is like to camp with a Troop. From setting up a campsite, to cooking instruction, hiking, axe yard skills and safety, to Outdoor Ethics, Leave no Trace, and Fishing, this action packed weekend often leaves young scouts wanting more!
Scouts and Leaders took on a project to install a flag pole at the home of a local disabled Army Veteran who has always wanted a flag pole to proudly display our nation's colors from. Scouts raised the funds, purchased the materials, installed the flag pole, and completed the project with a Flag Ceremony for the first raising of the flag.
Scouts and Leaders had the privilege of attending the Blue & Gold Ceremony for Cub Scout Pack 1115 as we welcomed their six AOL Scouts into our unit and congratulated them on earning their AOL rank and graduating the Cub Scout Program.
Scouts and AOL Scouts spent the weekend at Lake Whitney State Park. During this campout, Older Scouts instructed AOL Scouts on conducting an outdoor flag ceremony, taught them skills on how to set up camp and assist with camp duties, and spent some time cycling and fishing amongst other activities.
At this Open House meeting for AOL Scouts and potential new recruits, Scouts participated in a patrol competition designed to show new scouts what it's like working as a Patrol. Scouts had to work as a team to erect a tent and then build a survival shelter using rope, trek poles, and a tarp.

Scouts and Leaders embarked upon a 10 mile trail ride around White Rock Lake as part of the Cycling Merit Badge.
At our 2nd Annual Winter Court of Honor/Holiday Party, Scouts were recognized for all of their accomplishments since Summer. The night was complete with a potluck dinner, Secret Santa gift exchange, games, and more.
Scouts and other Volunteers will be assisting our Chaplain Aide and Patrick Patrol Leader, Kaiden, as he works on his ESSP project benefiting Mesquite Animal Shelter. Kaiden is seeking to provide the shelter with some much needed food, towels, and blankets to help make the shelter a more comfortable place for stray animals.
Yes folks, we are headed back for year two of Campsigiving. Four days out on Possum Kingdom Lake at the beautiful Camp Constantin Scout Camp. Scouts will have the opportunity to take part in merit badge classes, movie/game night, t-shirt tye-dye, Bob Ross painting, night time orienteering, shooting sports and more. It gets a bit chilly this time of year so be sure to bring the right gear and be prepared for fun!
Scouts and Scouters took a break from the hustle and bustle that is rank advancement, merit badges, camping, and community service to have a little fun. Not that everything else isn't fun, but sometimes you just need a change of pace and a little fun competition. Who do you think won in the final race...scouts or scouters?
Our SPL, Diego, completed his ESSP benefitting The Buddy League. For this project Scouts and other Volunteer's assisted Diego as he helped run the opening day ceremonies for the league. Volunteers were teamed up with a Buddy to help and cheer them on as they played America's favorite pastime sport...baseball. In addition to assisting with opening day activities, Diego was also able to raise funds to donate a new speaker system to the league as well as a pallet of water.
Our ASPL, Cayden, completed his ESSP benefiting Children's Health Dallas. For this project Scouts and other volunteers helped Cayden collect cans and other scrap metals from around the community to sell so that he could purchase and donate video game systems, video games, tablets, and accessories to for the usage of patients at Children's Health Dallas as they recover during hospital stays. Total raised was $2,011.46.
During our first annual Greenhorn Campout Scouts worked with new members and Webelo Scouts on a series of activities and events designed to teach those in attendance the basic knowledge and skills that they must have as a Scout. From basic knowledge and knot tying to fire building, knife safety, and hiking, those in attendance got a little taste of everything.
During our end of summer court of honor Scouts were recognized for all of the achievements they have earned from April through August. During this Court of Honor we recognized 6 rank advancements, 26 merit badges earned, 6 special awards, 5 O/A Ordeal completions, and 16 individual awards earned from Philmont Scout Ranch.
Scouts and parents attended a presentation hosted by our Advancement Coordinator designed to help everyone understand requirements a Life Scout must meet to earn their Eagle Scout Rank. This presentation covered everything from rank requirements and merit badges to the process involved with the Eagle Scout Project and Eagle Application.
Philmont Scout Ranch is a High Trek adventure that older scouts can attend. Scouts from our unit teamed up with two other units from our area to embark on a 9-day hiking trek through the back country of Cimarron, NM. They hiked more than 60 miles and
At NYLT Scouts spend a week learning what it means to be a leader. This youth program is equivalent to the adult Wood Badge Program, in that it teaches those who are becoming leaders all about the patrol method, team work, and leadership.
Scouts attended Summer Camp at Circle Ten Council's Camp Constantin in Graford, TX. During this weeklong camp Scouts participated in merit badge classes, enjoyed hike's to Johnson Peak and a boating trip out to Hell's Gate. They also participated in games, campfire programs, water sports and activities, and much more.
We were honored to have five Scouts and two Scouters complete their Order of the Arrow Ordeal in May 2023 and become members of the Order of the Arrow Mikinakawa Lodge and Tlanuwa Chapter.
Scouts from the Troop got up early to cook and serve breakfast to the Men's Council of our Charter Organization. During this breakfast, Scouts also give a presentation to the members of the Men's Council on our program and the things they do as Scouts.
Scouts assisted the event coordinators and planners in hosting the activities of the day. Duties included fish weigh-ins and measuring, pole setup and distribution, and teaching youth of the community about fishing and caring for our city's waterways.
At our quarterly Court of Honor events, Scouts are recognized for their achievements in rank advancement, earned awards, and merit badge completions.
March 2023, our Troop attended Camporee with other troops from Rising Sun, Post Oak, East Trinity Trails, and Soaring Eagle Distrists for a weekend of camping, fun, and competition. Scouts competed in The Amazing Scout Race, road ATV's, participated in Shooting Sports, and so much more.
This was a fun filled weekend in the open air and under the stars at Trevor Reese Jones Scout Camp. Scouts and Scouters participated in a Horse Trail Ride and other activities such as hiking, fishing, and bike riding.

There's nothing better in December than a Court of Honor and Holiday Party combination. Scouts were recognized for their accomplishments and afterwards celebrated with fellowship, food, fun, and some friendly gingerbread house competition.
Each year we open up our Scout Hut to potential recruits and Scouts who may be interested in Scouts BSA and our Troop Program. This a great time for our Scouts to showcase their talents and skills and an even better time for others to get to know our Scouts, our Leaders, and what we do.
Scouts spent 4 days and 3 nights at Circle Ten Council's 1st Annual Campsgiving Camp. Activities included merit badge courses, video game tournaments, night sky viewing, hiking, biking, and so much more.
During this weekend campout at Camp Wisdom our Scouts served as leadership and guides for Webelo Scouts of Rising Sun District. Responsibilities included assisting Webelo Scouts in creating paracord bracelets as well as leading them on a 3 mile hike and scavenger hunt.
Scouts spent the weekend camping out at Fort Parker State Park. During this campout, Scouts were able to participate in a canoe trek across the beautiful Springfield Lake and up the Navasota River.
Scouts participated in the City of Mesquite's Annual Addressing Mesquite Day. During this event we helped a local homeowner with a project that she was not able to do for herself. In addition to laying a new brick patio, Scouts also assisted the homeowner by cleaning up her flower beds in front of her home.
Some of our Scouts spent the weekend camping and learning all there is to know to become certified as a Climbing Level I & II Instructor. Skills learned during this event included how to belay, the proper wear of helmets and harnesses, how to tie climbing knots, how to rig a climb, and how to rig a releasable rappel.
Scouts spent the morning learning the fundamentals about archery, the different shooting elements, and how to properly shoot a bow and arrow in competition. Upon completion of the course Scouts also earned their Archery Merit Badge.
Our Scouts spent six days and five nights canoeing a total of 78 miles on the waters of Northern Minnesota and sleeping beneath the stars.
